Training Log: (11/11) 10 miles - Weekly total: 27 miles
Last double digit “long” run AGAIN before marathon week AGAIN. Nice easy pace on a day in the mid 60s, but slightly tight after sitting in a class for 23 hours this weekend. Didn’t mention it here yet, but attended USATF Level one coaching school. Looking into helping out volunteer coaching with youth running and charity programs. But for now my head is crammed with info and my muscles were in the same sitting positions for hours and hours. Not ideal with 26.2 in 7 days, but it was how I was supposed to spend the weekend after NYC when I wasn’t back up and running yet. Oh well…the best laid plans…
I am running the 2012 Philadelphia Marathon on 11/18 for childhood cancer research. If you have a moment, please check out my links below and consider donating to my run.

2012 NYC Run Anyway Marathon - 11/4/2012 - 6.5 miles - Week: 29 miles
The NYC Run Anyway marathon was EASILY one of the coolest events I’ve ever taken part in. There were probably 10,000 runners (maybe more!) out on a beautiful sunny day in Central Park and the spirit and enthusiasm was just incredible. Most
I limited my own participation to one loop of 6.5 miles ending at the NYCM finish line. I did 12 yesterday and this was enough today since….drumroll….I’m still tapering for a marathon in 14 days! I won’t talk anymore about it today and not jinx it, but should have confirmation sometime tomorrow :-) I stayed and cheered other runners for a few hours and donated to the group going to Home Depot for supplies. Off to fall onto a pillow and nap in my heated hotel room for now, but still no heat at home. Tomorrow will mark a full week without power, heat, hot water, phones, internet and spotty cell service…but the training AND FUNDRAISING continues! :-)
Training Log: (10/28) 10 miles - Weekly total: 27 miles (taper!)
Goals for the day: perform three final pre-marathon and pre-Sandy tasks, while avoiding injury with 8 days to go before NYC. 1) Get in the LAST long training run: 10 miles…no aches, pains, bumps, bruises, slipping on leaves, or getting hit by a car in the 7AM darkness…check! 2) Climbed up on steep roof and removed squirrel rescue cord from chimney and back inside safely…long story…check! 3) Up and down ladder cleaning gutters…check! Task trifecta complete and still in one piece :-)
Also final uniform/gear/nutrition check. Uni ok with short or long tops..probably take along both. RaceReady pockets in back don’t bounce with even 6-7 GUs (genius!) also room for ID/room key in one side pocket and cell battery in other small side pocket.. Spibelt with android… no bounce and cant even tell it’s there. Still deciding on bib hanging from belt or not. Orange Mandarin Gu…YUCK! Lime and Strawberry banana fine. Chocolate still my tops, but only 20g carbs vs 25g for most others. Ok..enough obsessing about race for today and will refocus on watching media obsess over FrankenStorm.
First real taper week and cut the weekly total down to 27 miles. No real speed or hill sessions, but worked a few good hills into a midweek run and picked up the pace in spots. The miles and fitness are in the bank and the focus is now on nutrition, hydration, staying loose, and lots of sleep. ONE MORE WEEK!
I am running the 2012 ING NYC MARATHON with Fred’s Team to raise funds for critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Please consider donating to support my run and THANK YOU! Here is the link: http://ht.ly/arn7g
