Yasso 800s are done and the last “tough” marathon training run is now behind me! Ended on a high note too, so all is good. This one was the full 10 x 800m track repeats with a recovery lap between. My six interval avg time was 3:32 a month ago and my eight interval avg. time two weeks ago was 3:30.5. Here are today’s splits:
3:21, 3:25, 3:30, 3:27, 3:25, 3:26, 3:29, 3:29, 3:26 and 3:21
avg 800m interval of 3:25.9!
avg pace of 6:57.5
avg HR or 166.5 or 88%HRmax
I’ve been waiting for this ten rep Yasso run for months and had it perfectly timed to the 14-17 days before race day he suggests (today is 17) and I forgot to charge my Garmin! After the first interval is flashed the low battery and I just hoped it would hold on long enough to record most of them. Thankfully I brought my Android along in my SPIbelt just to see how it would feel at a higher pace (fine as it turns out). SO…on the recovery laps I cranked up Endomondo, Run Keeper and Garmin FIT to see which I could use and figure out how to record lap times on the fly. As it turned out the Garmin did that the best, so that was going to be my #1 backup, but I kept the others running as redundant backups (yes…I’m that dorky!) The watch made it through 8 intervals and the Garmin Fit app handled the rest. Whew!
Hanging up my lighter track shoes for awhile and looking forward to Saturday’s Fred’s Team marathon course run, where we’ll run over the Queensboro bridge and then proceed to do the Manhattan section of the course (10 miles) at an easy pace. Then it’s taper time for me, but all systems seem to be go :-)
I am running the 2012 ING NYC MARATHON with Fred’s Team to raise funds for critical cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Please consider donating to support my run and THANK YOU! Here is the link: http://ht.ly/arn7g
